Portland is a major migration point for birds and is visited throughout the year by hundreds of dedicated bird watchers, descending on the most obvious to the remotest of locations to watch and study some of the most outstanding flying species on earth.

Herring Gulls, Guillemots, Razorbills, Fulmars and Kittiwakes to the Peregrine Falcons are a natural part of the island wildlife.
Visitors take either the East or West-cliff route to observe and monitor the migration of birds, some of which are nationally or globally protected. Spring and Autumn months are the best time to visit Portland for bird watching with April and May being the peak months for migration.
